As Hyderabad continues to expand West, the once lonely stretches of land now boast of swanky new places. Mamalola Penthouse sits pretty on the 13th floor of the Financial District in Nanakaramguda, and offers uninterrupted views of the cityscape from multiple directions. What’s with the quirky name? Co-Founder, Shashidhar Kasi says, “We wanted an Indian name that would allude to young romance. Mamalola, a cheeky term of endearment in Malayalam translates to ‘hey baby’.”
The look, the vibe
The interiors exude a relaxed luxury vibe with its cabanas and splashes of teal, lounge chairs, sofas and high stools. The spacious rooftop bar offers a variety of seating options, to suit your mood and the occasion. We chose to sit near the railings to enjoy the breeze as we sipped on our cocktails at the city’s largest rooftop bar. There are two bars, a stage for live bands, air conditioned and al- fresco seating. The ambience is soothing and sophisticated, with good music and soft lighting. The place looks ideal for an after-work drink, team lunch, family dinner or a date.
The food menu is varied and offers both global and Indian options. From tandoori tikkas and Mangalorean Ghee Roast to sushi, steaks and burgers, there’s a little of everything. We sampled some from each section and enjoyed the wood fired pizzas as much as the Pepper Chilli Chicken, baos and sushi. The global food has a touch of the desi to suit the local palate.
Flavor notes
The highlight of Mamalola Penthouse are its signature cocktails, created by Sourav Samantha, a well-known, award-winning mixologist. These cocktails are not just drinks; they are works of art that fuse flavors, colors, and aromas. Each cocktail has a story behind it, and each sip will take you on a journey of discovery.
The newest entrant to the rooftop lounge and bar segment is pushing the envelope with its creative drinks. We tasted the Clarified Emerald Isle, a herb infused tequila-based cocktail; Mamalola’s Love, a progressive cocktail made with a Japanese plum liquor; Clarified Purple Sapphire, a gin based fruity cocktail and, Habanero Picante, a spicy take on the classic Picante. While the first three had sweet, sour and fruity flavor profile, the latter was spicy. Mamalola’s Love was the WOW! pick for the evening. We highly recommend that you see how your cocktails are mixed because, that’s showmanship for the bartenders and adds the pizzaz to the drink.
