WOW! checked out Akan, the most recent party destination to hit Madhapur
Named after the Mayan God of intoxication, Akan promises a well- stocked bar, artisanal cocktails and mocktails to keep the party flowing. In their quest to offer something unique, founders Nihal Reddy Gurrala and Nikhil Reddy Gurrala decided to move away from the more popular industrial décor to incorporate accents from the mystic Mayan Culture.
With each new place vying to stand out from the crowd, Akan does that with their interiors and the enviable view. Several elements from the ancient Mayan civilization have been incorporated in the decor and the menu. The Mayan calendar on the ceiling, handcrafted pots set carefully into the walls, handmade, all natural clay bricks from Benaras pay homage to Mayan culture and add a distinct character.
FOOD
Akan serves a range of cuisines, from authentic South Indian to Continental to North Indian and yes, Biryani as well. Among the food we tried, the following stood out: Crispy Shiitake Mushrooms, Lotus Stem Galoutis, Mutton Chettinad Roast in the starters, and Madras Curry Pasta, Pesto Burrata Spinach Pizza, Butter Chicken Nanza and Mango Fish Pulusu among the mains.
The Madras curry pasta, infused with a specially sourced curry paste from Puducherry, is a delicious example of fusion of flavors by the Gora Sahibs who experimented with the curry powder and loved it so much that the powder still has a fan following in England. There is a small portion of the menu dedicated to Indo- Mayan fusion flavors. We also tried a few cocktails from the bar menu. Try the Mayan Melon Drama for its mildly fruity notes and pretty presentation.
The vibe
Akan offers a vast space that can accommodate up to 1,500 guests across three levels, including a rooftop, so no fear of feeling crowded. We enjoyed the mesmerizing view of the lake and the twinkling Durgam Cheruvu bridge. You can choose to sit indoors and be one with the pulsating music or sit outdoors and ponder about life over a drink and the view.
An exclusive space on the rooftop with beautiful breezy cabanas and seating areas can be booked for private and corporate events. It has its own bar and a brick-oven to roll out pizzas. Sundowners are bound to be popular with revelers raising a toast to the setting sun and enjoying the changing view of the lake.
