Fluke Curry in Sainikpuri is all about walking down the memory lane of mom’s cooking
Driven by a feeling of home and inspired by his mother’s delicious cooking that he claims was very often by fluke, Varun Sharma and his wife Pooja Kaushik Sharma decided to bring his mother’s fluke curries and other North Indian culinary delights to Sainikpuri’s ardent foodies.
Fluke Curry aims to pay homage to the recipes passed on from the traditional kitchens of North India where each dish is thoughtfully crafted. Not only are they great for solo dinners but can also be devoured as an accompaniment to your larger format meals. Focussing on aromatic Hindustani flavors, the new eatery is perched upon a tree house amidst the lush greenery of Sainikpuri. Warm wooden interiors and potted greens popping out of everywhere you look, welcome you here. The staff seated us in a sunlit corner of this treehouse café and we were ready to dive into the yummies that awaited us.
We kicked off our North Indian journey with a delectable Chaat Platter, that comprised of Aloo Tikki Gol Gappa and Chaat Papdi. This is not just popular street food up north but also a social and cultural experience that brings people together to enjoy this vibrant and dynamic party of flavors. The main course was a succulent and flavorful Butter Chicken and the thick North Indian Daal Makhni savored with the softest Garlic Naan.
Being complete foodies, we refused to give up and then jumped to the all-time favorites of Rajma Curry paired with aromatic basmati rice served with a side of Boondi Raita, Sookhe Aaloo, Mukka Pyaaz and Achar. We also sampled the tangy richness of Kadhi Chawal, a yogurt-based fluke curry.
For dessert, the kulfi melted in our mouths leaving behind a taste that reminded one of the North Indian summers.
